Understanding Bespoke
& AI-Assisted Commissions
Every commissioned project is created specifically for you. Unlike purchasing an existing photograph or artwork, bespoke work involves creative interpretation, experimentation and production based on the references and direction we agree upon before work begins. To keep the process straightforward—and expectations clear—please understand the following before commissioning a project:
Payment
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, bespoke commissions are paid in full before production begins. Payment reserves my time and initiates the creative process. Because the work is custom-made and production costs and time are incurred from the moment work begins, payments for commissioned work are non-refundable once production has started.
What You Are Purchasing
Your quote covers the specific number of final images or videos described in our agreement. For example, a commission for four images means four finished images, not an unlimited number of generations from which to choose. Additional images, alternate versions, different poses, expressions, wardrobe, settings, compositions or creative directions are considered additional work and may be quoted separately.
References & Likeness
When a commission involves recreating or interpreting a real person, reference photographs are used to guide the work. AI-assisted imagery is interpretive by nature, and an exact photographic reproduction of a person's face, body or appearance cannot be guaranteed. By commissioning the work, you acknowledge that some variation in likeness is inherent to the medium. A subjective preference such as “I'd like the face to look more like him,” “can we try another expression?” or “I'd like to see another version” does not constitute a technical defect and may require additional commissioned work.
Corrections vs. New Versions
If I make a clear error against the agreed brief—for example, the wrong hair color, wardrobe or another specifically agreed detail, then I will correct it. A request to explore a different creative possibility is not a correction. Changes in preference, new reference images, alternate compositions, poses, expressions, environments, wardrobe or other directions introduced after production begins are treated as additional work.
Revisions
Unless revisions are specifically included in your written quote, revisions are not included automatically.
I may make minor adjustments at my discretion when appropriate, but doing so does not create an entitlement to additional versions or continuing rounds of changes. This is particularly important with AI-assisted work: every new generation is new creative output, not simply an adjustment to an existing file.
Previews, Alternatives & Unselected Work
During production, I may occasionally share previews or alternative versions to illustrate progress or help make a creative decision. Unless expressly identified as part of the final deliverables, previews, proofs, alternate generations, rejected versions and other working material are not included in the commission and are not licensed for publication or use. Only the final delivered work covered by your commission may be used.
Approval & Delivery
Delivery of the agreed number of finished works constitutes completion of the commission. Completion is based on fulfillment of the agreed creative brief and deliverables, rather than unlimited revisions until a subjective standard of satisfaction is reached. Requests for additional work after delivery are always welcome and can be quoted as a new commission or extension of the original project.
Creative Process
The software, AI models, prompts, techniques, workflows and production methods I use are part of my proprietary creative process and are not included as part of the commissioned deliverables. You are commissioning the finished work. You are not commissioning access to my work, documentation of my work, or instruction in the methods used to create my work.
Rights & Client Responsibility
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, commissioning an image does not transfer copyright or ownership of my underlying creative process. The client is responsible for ensuring they have the necessary permission or legal right to provide reference materials and to commission and use imagery depicting identifiable individuals, brands or other protected material. Any specific commercial usage, exclusivity, copyright transfer or other licensing requirements should be agreed upon before production begins.
The Simple Version
You tell me what you want. We agree on the brief, deliverables and price. You pay for the commission, I create the work, and I deliver what we've agreed upon. If you want to take it further afterward, fantastic! We simply treat that as the next piece of work.
